Hanging out...

Not a lot happened today. We just hung out at and around the hotel. Brynn and I tried the pool and she wasn't thrilled, though she didn't hate it either. She preferred sitting on a chair putting the sunscreen on her legs. I am just glad I brought a little travel size bottle!
Here is a funny story. Last night I woke up and she was not in the bed. I have the crib pushed up against her side of the bed so she wouldn't fall out anymore but the crib has wheels and sits half on carpet, half on a marble floor. Well the crib was slightly away from the bed so I looked down and I still didn't see her so I got up to go look and there she was, under the crib, sleeping face up on the marble floor, hands and feet absolutely freezing!! She may be in for a shock when she comes home to our soft beds!
She was calmer today - no tantrums but not as free spirited either. I think she is just exhausted, though she is still awake as I type this and now I am going to try to convince her to sleep since I am ready for bed. Her favorite toys in the playroom? A toy truck and a toy car! And today she said "boat" - her first clear English word though she says "bye bye", "daddy" and "grandpa" though they aren't as clear and probably only I would recognize them. She definitely knows her name is Brynn and she loves looking at the pictures on the camera.
Today a mom carrying her newly adopted Chinese baby, "How did you get one with such long hair?" and a dad commented that Brynn was "as beautiful as they come" though his wife must of kicked him 'cause a few seconds later he added, "well, next to our new daughter of course!" Both comments made me laugh. All the babies and children are just beautiful in my opinion. I came here knowing the statistics of how many Chinese children are adopted each year, etc. but just seeing the number that are here, right now, is truly amazing.
Tomorrow we have an appointment for some type of oath at the American Consulate in the afternoon and we are shopping before that. Good night!

I just came from your house...the boys are doing great...and are literally counting down the days until they see you.
Here is to a safe, speedy and 'uneventful' trip back to the US.
Tell your dad to practice on that Sudoku book he has because I now have wooden board for Sudoku and Caleb is learning how to do it!
I just got back from your house and the boys are sooooo looking forward to your return. Their faces light up when we count how few days are left.
Tell your dad he had better practice on the Sudoku puzzles he has because I have a wooden one now and Caleb is learning how to do it.
Here is to a safe, speedy and 'uneventful' flight home!
Hi, Kate! I saw the boys (all of them) last night and they were great. Doug was as excited as I have seen him since Evan came along! Like your mom, I wish you Godspeed as you travel home.
KAte- All of us are so excited for your return we may need to put up a road block to keep the visitors away for awhile! I know Brynn will need time to adjust, but you explain that to my family...;-)
Have a safe trip home...we will be thinking of you and praying for a safe, PEACEFUL trip with a very calm, easily entertained 2 year old...OK, OK...we can all dream...!
See you soon....Caleb, Price, and Evan......ready or not here they come!!!!!!!!!Doug, the girls are coming!!!
Kate,
Brynn looks pretty happy to me, you're doing a wonderful job! Any two year old would have a melt down or two with all the running that has been scheduled for you.
Today I took Evie in for her two month well baby visit and she also has an umbilical hernia. Our doctor told us to watch it until she is 5 or 6 years old (about half umbilical hernias close on their own by then anyway). If the hernia was larger than 2 cenrimeters or the look of it bothered Evie, he would have outpatient surgery to correct it. I have a flyer on it that I will copy for you. When Evie cries, hers "pops" out (maybe two inches or more).
We look forward to you return and meeting Brynn with her puffy pink ponytails.
Shannon

Hi Kate,
I am Toni's mom and we met at the pool before you left to get you beautiful daughter. I have been reading you blog diary daily and have fallen in love with you and you family. I will miss reading of your adventures in China and your new baby, but look forward to meeting you again. Brynn is such a fortunate child to have gotten you all for a family. Hoping to see you soon.
